A friend of mine is doing the National Novel in a Month project where you write a 175-page novel in 30 days, so I decided to sign up too. It breaks down to about 5-6 pages a day for the whole month of November. The project is about exercising your writing muscles and just getting yourself to write everyday, just write, not worrying about whether the work is good or bad but just getting the words to flow.I'm completely intimidated by the process but also a bit excited. I reached a point during grad school where I could sit down and write at any point of the day or night, because my time was so limited and there was so much to be done, that I just had to do it when I could. I was in the habit of writing so often that the work of getting started never took very long. I'm hoping to get back to that point, where I'm never far from my writing.
So, I have no hopes that what I write over the next month will be a masterpiece but I'm excited to train my brain and my body again, to get the discipline to write daily. Hopefully that practice will lead to better writing down the road.
