Let it snow, let it snow!

Last night we had a lovely snow storm, which left a nice dusting of white fluffy stuff all through our neighborhood. Ralph and I decided around 11pm to take a walk over to McCarren Park and play in the snow a bit. We ambled along feeling the snow crunch beneath our feet until I started scooping up handfuls from a bench and making nice, perfectly round snowballs. Ralph tried to give me lessons on how to throw one, but I have a terrible aim. After about a dozen tries, I finally hit my mark - the middle of his chest. We played for a while, then walked around a while longer, then went home for some homemade Guinness cake that I had made the night before. It was a great winter night! Ralph's doing his best to try to make winter more pleasant and enjoyable for me and make me hate it less. It's working.
So, we had our friends Mike & Jackie in town for the weekend and had a lovely visit, as always. We went to the Vinegar Hill House on Saturday night, which is where the Guinness cake idea came from. The restaurant was lovely and cozy, as we had hoped it would be, and the food was good. Sunday we returned to the Whitney so M&J could see the Alexander Calder and William Eggleston exhibits, which Ralph and I were both happy to revisit. I highly recommend both, so if you have time, I think they're both running through January at least! Monday Mike, Jackie and I went to MOMA and saw the Van Gogh and MirĂ³ exhibits, which were both great. I'll have to write a couple of blog entries just on those exhibits later.
Otherwise, we're just getting ready for the holidays, cooking at home a lot, trying new recipes, and looking forward to the friends and family that we'll see over the coming weeks.
