VIBE Girls

Our dear friend Dana invited us out to see her girls from the nonprofit VIBE Theater Experience last night at Union Pool in Williamsburg. Six of the girls from the program performed songs that they wrote themselves. It was such a great performance, so moving and inspiring. The girls were all unbelievably talented signers, rappers and songwriters, and talented entertainers as well. It was like catching a performance by Queen Latifah, Lauren Hill, MIA, and Jill Scott when they were 17. Imagine six gorgeous divas all sharing the same stage, taking turns as lead and back-up singers.
CDs of their music are available on the website and hopefully more shows will be scheduled soon in the NY area. I highly recommend seeing this girls! I expect nothing but great things from them in the future.
And I am so proud and amazed by Dana, who co-founded this organization and has worked hard for years as the executive director and teaching artist, all while working on her PhD at NYU.
I'll post upcoming shows here when they're announced and I'll probably try to recruit as many friends as I can to go with me to the next one.
